Stop the stenography!! The press coverage for the campaign this year needs to change. Reporters need to look at themselves in the mirror and decide if they want to be reporters or stenographers. As Colbert put is so succintly in his satire:

“But, listen, let’s review the rules. Here’s how it works: the president makes decisions. He’s the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Just put ‘em through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know - fiction!”

Take this article for example. In it the press dutifully records Mccain attacking Obama's trip as a campaign rally. That's fine, BUT, wouldn't it be pertinent to go back and see what occured on Mccains last trip abroad to see if he did any campaigning. Check for hypocrisy. If this intrepid reporter did they would find this:

Mccain did actual FUNDRAISING overseas. Hmmm, that might have been important to add color to the article.

This is but one example, how many articles are devoted to Obama's flip flops without rebutting with Mccains? Perhaps the must unsettling were the flurry of articles that came out when Mccain promised to balance the budget in four years! Wow thats amazing! If I am to proclaim that I will single handedly rebuild ground zero in four years wouldn't you ask how? Maybe ask some experts if its really feasible? Maybe ask for some specifics? Well if your John Mccain you don't have to. Take a look at this article. The only criticism in the article from an "independent" source is this.

Stuart Rothenberg, who runs the Rothenberg Political Report, told "Good Morning America" Monday that the McCain plan remains a tough sell.

"He has fallen into more of a typical generic Republican message, and that's not a good place to be with a bad economy and an unpopular president," Rothenberg said.

All this article does is question the Republican brand not the feasibility of the plan. While Im on the subject, HOW DOES THE MEDIA ALLOW MCCAIN TO SOLVE ALL BUDGET PROBLEMS WITH CUTS IN PORK BARREL SPENDING???
